Heids and Herts Scotland
Heids and Herts Scotland were established in June 2021 to create, inspire, and promote social connections in the Howe of Fife through community arts projects.
We are working with communities to address social isolation, loneliness, and social connection across the Howe of Fife, the historical name given to the fertile farming area of central Fife in the valley of the River Eden between Strathmiglo and Cupar.
Like many rural areas, these communities have been impacted by the gradual dismantling of local infrastructure and services, lack of housing, limited transport links, and the integration into our everyday lives of digital technology, contributing to social isolation and loneliness. There has been lots of research on the effects of loneliness on our mental and physical health – it’s seen as one of the biggest health concerns we face.
Heids and Herts are working alongside local people and groups to build a programme of cultural activities based in the village halls. Our long-term vision is an annual programme of cultural events, art engagements and installations, and community gatherings, which help build community life and reinforce village halls as important creative spaces at the heart of vibrant, connected communities.
